ABOUT ME

Alana Mackey is in her fifth year at Pennsylvania State University studying Architectural Engineering with a focus in the Lighting + Electrical Option.  She will graduate in May 2015 with a B.A.E. degree.

In previous summers, Alana has studied abroad, as well as had several internships.  The summers following her freshman and sophomore year, she interned with Franklin Interiors, an interior design firm located in Pittsburgh, PA.  The following summer, she was a part of the Penn State Architectural Engineering study abroad program in Rome, Italy.  Here she earned a minor in Architectural Studies at Penn State.

This past summer she interned with Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design in their New York City office.  She worked primarily on AGI 32 calculations and renderings, updating reflected ceiling plans in AutoCAD, fixture research and documentation, client meetings, schematic presentations, and energy calculations.

In her years at Penn State, Alana has been active in many different clubs and leadership positions.

She is currently the secretary for the Penn State chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES).  This club organizes opportunities for students to meet with professionals and learn more about the design process with design charrettes, information sessions, and an annual trip to a major city to network with lighting professionals.

Alana has also been an active member of Global Architecture Brigades (Secretary 2012-2013), the Penn State student chapter of USGBC, the Student Society of Architectural Engineers (SSAE) and the mentoring program offered through SSAE.

After graduation, she will be joining the Studio 9 Lighting Design team with NBBJ architects in Seattle, WA.
